Killer Mike ‘detained’ and escorted out of the Grammys in handcuffs

The rapper, who won three awards for best rap performance, rap song, and rap album could be seen leaving the event in an unexpected way, as he was escorted out in cuffs.

In a video circulating X, formerly known as Twitter, a voice can be heard saying: “Are you serious? What the f***!”

Although it is not clear exactly what happened, it’s been learned the rapper was detained following reports of a ‘physical altercation.’

“At around 4 p.m., an individual was detained at [Crypto.com Arena] for a physical altercation,” a LAPD spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter. At the time, the LAPD did not name the star, however, have since issued a tweet explaining more details.

“On Sunday February 4th just after 4pm a male adult was detained & handcuffed for a physical altercation that occurred at the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court. The suspect was placed under arrest and was transported to LAPD Central Division,” they wrote.

“The suspect has been identified as 48-year-old Michael Render and booked for Misdemeanor Battery 243(A) PC, and is in the process of being released.”

Additional details of the altercation have not yet been released.

The rapper gave a ‘motivational’ speech hours before his arrest

A clean sweep for the 48-year-old, who won in every category he was nominated for. His last win at the Grammys was in 2003 for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group “The Whole World”.

While picking up his third victory of the night, for Best Rap Album, he exclaimed down the mic: “You cannot tell me that you get too old! You can’t tell me it’s too late! You can’t tell me dreams come true. It’s a sweep!”

In an award pick-up earlier in the night, he also approached the subject of age, telling the audiences: “For all the people out there that think you get too old to rap – b******. I don’t care if you’re 78 rapping about how many gals you got in the nursing home.”

The comments come after OutKast star Andre 3000 released an album of flute music last year, saying it was “inauthentic” for him to rap because “I’m 48 years old.”

Before the drama kicked off, fans were praising the star on X, formerly known as Twitter, as one wrote: “This is a win for the older generation. First Nas, now Killer Mike. Greatness.”
