Johnny Depp depends on Aqua Net and Dep gel

Johnny Depp’s hair is amazing. I wish I had his hair, and that’s coming from someone who loves her hair. Johnny’s seems thick, with natural body. I love when he grows it out – he looks like the image every little girl has of the romantic poet she’s going to fall in love with some day. But I also like Johnny with short hair, like he has for The Rum Diary, the film he’s doing right now.

One of the biggest problems on the set seems to be Johnny’s hair. The stylist is about to have a nervous breakdown trying to tame Johnny’s thick hair in the humidity of Puerto Rico. From what I can imagine, Johnny and I have the kind of similar, thick hair that turns into an afro in humidity. Seriously, when the humidity makes it feel like a soup, my hair resembles Yoko Ono’s.

But Johnny has dealt with these “hairy” issues before. Johnny’s solution is pure 1980s – Dep gel and Aqua Net. Oh, Aqua Net. My ancient enemy. Star Magazine has more:

Things got hairy on the set of Johnny Depp’s latest film when the stylist tried to tame his wild mane.

His part in The Rum Diary calls for a slick 1950s coif, “But nothing could control his hair!” says a source. “The poor stylist almost had to bring in a toupee!”

So Johnny revealed the secret mix that has kept his locks in check for years: Dep gel (no pun intended) with a coating of Aqua Net hairspray!

“He said he used it to style his hair in Cry-Baby too.”

Cheap trick!

My hair is like my own barometer. I can tell when it’s going to rain just by studying how big it gets within an hour. But I’ve never been one to grab the Aqua Net, that stuff turns hair into a thick helmet that takes a ton of shampoo to wash out. I think I have post-traumatic stress due to my mother’s over-use of Aqua Net when I was little. I must have inhaled gallons of the stuff when I was a little girl. It’s so funny that Depp’s hair solutions are not only so 1980s, but they’re so cheap. No designer de-frizzers for Johnny, God bless him.
