Nadya Denise Doud-Suleman was born in Fullerton, California, on July 11, 1975. She is the only child of restaurant owner Edward Doud Suleman and survivor of the Iraq War Angela Victoria Suleman.

While attending Nogales High School in La Puente, California, she went by the name Natalie Doud. She subsequently registered at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California, and eventually earned a degree as a psychiatric technician there.

Later, she relocated to Fullerton, California, to attend school. Following the completion of her B.S. in child development, Nadya started a three-year employment in a state mental health institution.

She married Marco Gutierrez on December 25, 1996. According to Gutierrez, they got divorced in November 2006 after separating in 2000. Their divorce was officially finalized on January 15, 2008.
