Tall Pines release updates, synopsis, and everything we know so far

Canadian screenwriter, actor, and comedian Mae Martin has just announced an exciting new project with Netflix! You might recognize Martin from their Netflix stand-up specials or even the acclaimed series Feel Good, which they starred opposite Charlotte Ritchie and Lisa Kudrow. Next, Martin will be working on bringing a teen thriller series to life called Tall Pines.

According to Variety, Tall Pines is an upcoming limited series set in a picturesque small town with something “insidious” lurking underneath. Production will take place in Canada. Danielle Woodrow, the director of content for Netflix Canada, revealed this is one of the first official commissions for Netflix’s Canadian branch.

Based on the description, Tall Pines sounds like an exciting mix of Stranger Things and Euphoria, as it will explore a “sinister town” and the “complex and sometimes twisted relationship between teens and adults,” focusing on generational differences.

The language used to describe the plot of Tall Pines is pretty vague so far. Articles detailing the series seem to hint that it will toy with the popular “town with a dark secret” trope we’ve seen in shows like Stranger Things, Riverdale, and Twin Peaks. However, the wording also hints that the show will focus on the “troubled teen industry,” which makes it sound like it has more of a teen-drama angle than a supernatural one.

In a statement, Martin says this is “a story I’ve been dying to tell for years,” and they are “beyond excited for people to see what we have in store! It will be an insane roller coaster and so different to anything I’ve done before.”

Tall Pines is still in development, so it hasn’t even begun filming or casting yet. It will probably not premiere until late 2024 or 2025 at the earliest.

No cast has been announced for the series yet. Mae Martin doesn’t appear to be acting in the project as they are credited as the creator, co-showrunner, and executive producer.

No, there is no trailer or teaser yet since filming has not begun on the series. Stay tuned to Netflix Life for more information on this exciting new thriller series!
